Departments

Faculty of Global Engagement

Department of Global Studies (English Course)

A new experience changes the world and the future
Now with globalization having an effect on our lives, various new issues have appeared in a variety of fields.
To deal with these issues, this department is to develop human resources equipped with a global perspective, advanced language skills, and broad education. From the second year, students can choose either one course: the “International Cooperation Course,” in which students will gain knowledge related to world peace and learn skills required to solve global problems,
and the “Global Business Course,” in which students will learn skills to contribute to society through business.
There are various problems in the world such as growth of inequality due to globalization, and change of social structure by technological evolution. Do you fear such a future or will you become a change leader? This department develops "Changemaker" that creates ways to guide to the solution for various problems around the world.
This department is suitable for a person with ideas to change the world, a person who wants to transform the world with high motivation, and for those who want to upgrade their level.
Therefore, we emphasize "experience" rather than just learning to accumulate knowledge like traditional university education.
Learn from companies and organizations in Kyoto, and domestic and overseas, and including the community (local community)
all over the world, you will train creative thinking and negotiation techniques through experiences.
Not just remembering grammar to learn a language, but to acquire English language skill to function as a tool in a global society.

Department of Global Tourism (Japanese&English Course)

A meet with full of opportunities.
Learn tourism as a form of multicultural exchange, and as a policy and a business in addition to the traditional tourism industries such as the travel, hotel, and airline industries.
Understand the contemporary tourism issues from a global perspective, through studying various subjects that include tourism, business administration, policy science, and Kyoto environmental studies.
From the autumn semester in the first year, students can choose either one course: the "Tourism Policy Course," in which students will study tourism as a form of cultural policy, and the "Tourism Business Course," in which you will engage in the tourism business in a wide assortment of fields.
Department of Global Tourism places the following three pillars of education.
First of all, "To know your own culture and be interested in different cultures". Sometimes you may not feel comfortable with different cultures, but we would like to nurture talent who has willingly accepted it.
Next, "Make the best use of English." Students can acquire English that can be used in real situations, such as presentations and tourist information. And "Learn Kyoto as an example."
Develop academic societies that make the best use of the strengths of Kyoto, the international city of tourism. Learning practical know-how of Japanese hospitality is also our feature.
Language is important in the tourism industry, but what you need to pay more attention is nonverbal communication.
Even in words, the way to communicate, which is a non-linguistic element is important. The Japanese are good at receiving another person's feelings. A wonderful form of hospitality can be created by adding a power of outputting including non-verbal communication.
Human beings are essentially like sightseeing. People want to go the places they have never visited. That motivation is enough for learning.
It is okay, even if you are not good at English at the first place. Teachers will teach you heartily. Besides that, we welcome curious students who are interested in unknown worlds.

Faculty of Foreign Studies

Department of Japanese Studies

Do not learn "language", but "Japanese"
Study Japanese as a foreign language.
If someone were to ask you the difference between "kikimashita ka" and "kiita n desu ka," would you be able to answer? At the Department of Japanese Studies, we look at Japanese from an objective point of view, analyzing it and discovering the rules that guide the language. You will learn how to communicate your message using correct Japanese.

In our classes, 1 out of every 4 students is an international student.
The Department of Japanese Studies provides an invaluable environment where Japanese students specializing in their native language come together to learn with international students studying Japanese as a foreign language. As a result, Japanese students and international students have many chances to interact, and students naturally become more internationally-minded and develop multicultural understanding.

Develop the ability to communicate Japanese culture.
By gaining an intimate knowledge of both traditional and modern Japanese culture, you will be able to explore Japanese culture more deeply and on a greater level to understand the new values and ideas being formed within. You will also gain the ability to communicate that culture both in and out of Japan, and will be able to spark innovation drawing from that culture.
